Description
This is the only way ‘Nyavka’ will ever be available as a print. And since she’s limited to 50 prints, once she’s gone, she’s gone!
In Ukrainian folklore, a nyavka is a forest spirit. When a girl dies a tragic or premature death, her spirit becomes a nyavka, which then inhabits the forests and mountains with other nyavka and mavka, luring men into the woods to their deaths. They are distinct from mavka, another type of female forest spirit, because you can see the inside of their back.
What is Risograph?
Risograph is a printing process that is best described as silk screening meets photocopying. Invented in Japan in 1946, the process uses ink drums and paper stencils to print each colour as a screen onto a sheet. It is eco friendly, using an entirely cold printing process and vegetable-based inks. Despite being done by machine, it still has the slight variation and unpredictability of silkscreen printing, so no two pieces are exactly the same.
